History
The family behind the founder is truly passionate about artisanal tequila; the kind of tequila our ancestors once made and consumed themselves, sip by sip. They knew there was more to tequila than the party drink image that most brands portray today. Therefore, they wanted to pass this knowledge on to their
children and motivate them to produce and enjoy only the highest quality tequila possible. A top quality tequila, so true to its roots and pure in every sense of theword. A tequila that could boldly compete with the strongest brands and stand its ground for its authenticity in flavour and body. Hoping to be the
smoothest tequila on the market, Suave Premium Tequila was destined to be born.
The young entrepreneur ventured with this project in mind, and met Jaime Villalobos Sauza. Jaime came from one of the oldest tequila families in the industry; Sauza Tequila was founded by its predecessors. However, the brand’s family name was later sold to investors who marketed the product worldwide, thus sacrificing its quality. As a result, Jaime sought to honour his ancestors by
developing the highest quality and most natural premium tequila possible. Jaime, in fact, spent several years gaining more experience in the industry as an official tequila catador for the Tequila Regulatory Council (CRT). Later he became the president of ONSOM: the Organization of Sommeliers of Mexico. This background prompted Jaime to join forces with the young entrepreneur and to produce themost distinctive, organic, kosher-certified, and additive-free sipping tequila the industry has ever known.

Our Process
Agave Growth
After a minimum of six years of natural growth, only the finest organically cultivated agaves are selected for the creation of our premium tequila. Each plant is carefully chosen at peak maturity, ensuring that only agaves of exceptional quality enter our production process. This patient cultivation forms the foundation of the character, purity, and elegance that define Suave.
Jima
Using a traditional coa—a sharp, flat blade mounted on a wooden handle—our skilled jimadores harvest only the most mature and perfectly developed agaves from the fields. The jima process begins by carefully removing the agave leaves, revealing the inner core of the plant, known as the heart of the agave.
Our strict quality standards ensure that only this heart is used in production, leaving a minimal amount of stalk within the pineapple. The result is agave cores that appear pure white after jima, a visual reflection of our meticulous process. This careful trimming minimizes the presence of undesirable sugars found in the stalk, allowing the natural sweetness and purity of the agave to shine through in the final spirit.
Autoclave Cooking
Once harvested, the agave pineapples are transported to the distillery, where they begin their transformation. The pineapples are cut into halves and quarters before being placed into stainless steel autoclave ovens, ensuring consistent and homogeneous cooking. Inside the autoclaves, the agave is gently steamed until the natural starches are converted into fermentable sugars, unlocking the rich sweetness of the plant.
After cooking, the agave is allowed to cool before the next stage of the process. The softened agave is then crushed to separate the valuable juice from the fibers. This extracted nectar—known in Mexico as mosto or mead—is a rich and naturally sweet liquid. It is collected in large stainless steel vats, where it begins the next stage of its journey: natural fermentation.
Fermentation
Suave Premium Tequila undergoes natural fermentation within stainless steel vats using yeast spores that occur naturally in the surrounding air. No additives or imported yeasts are introduced, allowing the agave to express its authentic character through this traditional and delicate process. During fermentation, the natural sugars contained in the agave nectar are gradually transformed into alcohol, creating the base that will later be refined through distillation.
This stage is deeply influenced by the environment. Seasonal variations, particularly temperature differences between summer and winter, can significantly affect fermentation. Careful attention to these natural variables is essential, as temperature can influence the final aroma and flavor profile of the tequila. Working with natural fermentation in small batches and individual barrels requires both precision and patience, making this stage both complex and profoundly rewarding.
Distillation
Suave Premium Tequila is distilled twice, a process designed to remove impurities while preserving the authentic essence of the agave. During distillation, the fermented liquid naturally separates into three components: the heads, the tails, and the heart. The heads contain excessively high concentrations of methanol and ethanol and are therefore discarded. The tails are also removed as they do not meet our quality standards. Only the heart of the distillation—the purest and most refined portion—is carefully retained to form our tequila. While many producers use an average of 5 kilograms of agave per liter of tequila, we intentionally use more than 8 kilograms of agave per liter. This generous use of agave results in a tequila of greater richness, depth, and complexity, while maintaining a naturally low methanol content. Methanol is partially responsible for the discomfort sometimes experienced after excessive drinking, making this careful selection and refinement process an important element in achieving a smoother, more refined tequila.
Aging
Following distillation, our tequila rests in stainless steel tanks, preserving the purity and character of our Blanco before either being bottled or carefully transferred into oak barrels for maturation. To shape the distinctive personality of each expression, we age our tequila in meticulously selected American and French oak barrels, each chosen for the unique nuances it imparts. Through this deliberate barrel selection, we develop remarkable depth, elegance, and complexity while honoring the natural integrity of the agave.
Beginning with an exceptional Blanco as our foundation allows every aged expression to evolve with balance and precision, resulting in tequilas that are refined, layered, and unmistakably Suave.
